Automatic Price Updater

With the arrival of hurricane season, adjusters are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. Hawkins Research, Inc. has been doing the same.

When the official 16B version of PowerClaim XML was released, it featured the price updater function. If you choose to enable this function, and are connected to the Internet, PowerClaim will automatically check for price updates each time you open the program. This will allow HRI to get the most up-to-date pricing available to adjusters very quickly. To manually check for updates at your convenience, click on “Tools” within the program, and then “Check for Cost Database Updates”.

The price updater was added because customers expressed the need for quick pricing updates during catastrophes. HRI understands that you need to save as much time as possible, especially during this time of year, and the price updater will help. As of now, prices are being updated monthly, but in the event of a catastrophe, the prices will be updated as they are needed by our customers.

Tip of the Month: Saving and Inserting Macros

In the 16B release of PowerClaim developers introduced the ability to save and insert line item macros. Macros are quite simply a way to save line items and use them in other estimates and/or claims and will save you a lot of time.

Procedure:

  1. Click to the far left of the line item you wish to save so that the entire line item is highlighted in blue.
  2. Click "Save Macro", which is located on teh second row of buttons next to the "Craftsman Search Cost" button.
  3. Enter a name for the macro and click "OK".
  4. Now Click the "Back to Areas" button and highlight the area in which you want to insert the macro.
  5. Click "Insert Macro" next to the "Edit Area" button. Choose the macro you want and click "Insert".

NOTE: You can insert the macros into areas of other claims, as well as insert them while you are in the line items screen.

Meet our Staff: Crystal Rogers

When your computer acts weird, your network goes down, or your phone lines die, who do you call? If you are an employee at Hawkins Research, Inc., you call Crystal Rogers, the Information Technology Manager. Crystal joined the PowerClaim team in February of 2005, bringing with her a Bachelors degree in Information Technology and seven years of experience in the field. On the surface, she is the person we rely on to fix all of our hums, glitches, static, and buzzing. But her contribution goes much further than that.
